Makurdi, the heart of Benue State, trembled not from gunfire today — but from the silent footsteps of people who have had enough. Men, women and youth gathered at Wurukum Roundabout for a peaceful protest, carrying bold placards and bleeding hearts. Their message was loud and clear: “Stop the Killings in Benue State.”
For too long, the people of Benue, especially farmers have lived in fear. Their ancestral lands, once fertile with cassava, yam and dreams, have become battlegrounds. The deadly herdsmen-farmer crisis has robbed too many of their lives, homes and hope. Families cannot go to their farms anymore; they cannot feed their children and they cannot sleep with both eyes closed.
The air at the protest was heavy not with anger, but with pain. Cries of “We are tired,” “We want peace,” and “Stop Benue Killings” filled the streets as protesters held up signs like “A Cry for Help” and “Stop Benue Killings”, drenched in emotion and urgency.
This isn’t just another protest. It’s a desperate call for survival.
The people are not asking for favors — they are demanding what every human being deserves: safety, justice and peace.
Makurdi is bleeding. Benue is bleeding. And the world must not stay silent.
To the leaders, both state and national — how many more graves must we dig before action is taken? How many more mothers must mourn before we say “enough is enough”?
We need a permanent solution to this crisis — not speeches, not visits, not promises — action.
